Abstract

In order to analyze the prevalence and molecular characterization of integrons in multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli isolates, and explore the relationship between integrons and multidrug resistance in E.coli, the int Ⅰ and gene cassettes were examined by PCR.The average detection rate of the type Ⅰ integron and the related gene cassettes in 75 strains of E.coli with multidrug resistance was 74.7%;The type Ⅱ integron was 5.3%(4 strains); But type Ⅲ integron was not found.Five types of Ⅰ integrons were detected. These results suggested that there is a good correlation between integron-carrying and the multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli isolates. It is apparent that type Ⅰ integron in E.coli with multidrug resistance may play an important role in the development.Class Ⅰ integrons are widespread in isolates of multidrug-resistant E.coli.Integrons are important molecular mechanism in the development of multidrug resistance.
