Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of esomeprazole, amoxicillin, azithromycin triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori (Hp) -positive duodenal ulcer. Method One hundred and fifty patients with Hp-positive duodenal ulcer were randomly divided into 3 groups. Patients in group A were treated with esomeprazole 20 mg bid, amoxicillin 1.0 bid, azithromycin 0.5 qd for 3 days; patients in group B were treated with esomeprazole 20 mg bid, amoxicillin 1.0 bid, azithromycin 0.5 qd (3 days per week) for 2 weeks; control group with esomeprazole 20 mg bid, amoxicillin 1.0 bid, clarithromycin 0.25 bid for 1 week. Four weeks later, electronic endoscopy and 13C urea breath test were reexamined. Results There were no differences between group A and group B as for ulcer healing rate, Hp eradication rate, symptom relief, but there were significant differences between above two groups and control group. Conclusion One-week triple therapy with esomeprazole, amoxicillin and azithromycin for Hp-positive duodenal ulcer was effective.
