Abstract

Objective To understand the current situation of the rural doctors in Xuzhou City,so as to supply the reference for improving the policy making on the rural doctors.Methods A questionnaire investigation was conducted in 5 towns with the help of the administration of local health centers.Totally 160 rural doctors were investigated and 148(92.5%) effective questionnaires were taken back.Results Among the 148 rural doctors,there were 39.20% of women.The average age was 39 years.The number of average years as a doctor was 19.0,and the average income per month was 800 RMB.Only 6% of rural doctors had the university educational background,and 73.0% of persons acquired secondary technical school education.Totally 78.4% of the rural doctors had formal medical education,and 99.3% of the rural doctors had practicing requirements.Totally 16.9% of them have not taken the courses of general practice.A total of 73.0% of the rural doctors had an idea to depart from their job.Totally 18.9% of persons devoted all their work time as a doctor,and 3.4% of the rural doctors could not treat the common aliments and frequently-occurring diseases.Conclusions The authorities should take measures to improve the service of rural doctors,and also improve their education.
