Abstract
The ecological footprint analysis method was used to calculate the ecological footprint of Zhangjiakou City in 2011 and analyze its changes and causations. The results showed that the ecological footprint of Zhangjiakou City in 2011 was 0.218 99hm2 per capita while its ecological carrying capacity was 0.759 55hm2 per capita, with per capita ecological surplus of 0.540 57hm2,which reveals that this region has not made full use of its various land resources. In terms of various land types,⑴ per capita ecological footprint is the largest in natural energy resources land, followed by water and forest land;⑵the largest ecological carrying capacity per capita is in its arable land, followed by woodland and builting plot;⑶ per capita ecological deficit is found in energy resources land and waterland while the ecological surplus appeares in the other ecological land types.
