The relationship between obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome and hypertension

Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and hypertension. Methods A total of 62 patients with OSAHS confirmed by monitoring of polysomnography monitor were divided into with hypertension group and without hypertension group.The apnea hypoventilation index(AHI),lowest oxygen saturation(SpO2),longest apnea time(LAT)and arousal index(AI) were compared in two groups,and blood pressure before going to bed and awake blood pressure were measured also in two groups. Results AHI,LAT and AI in OSAHS with hypertension group were significantly higher than those in OSAHS without hypertension group〔(652±201) vs (367±184)times/h,(584±107) vs (463±125)s,(412±136) vs (204±117) times/h,respectively,all P005〕,and the lowest SpO2 in OSAHS with hypertension group was significantly lower than that in OSAHS without hypertension group 〔(67±11)% vs(75±10)%,P005〕.The blood pressure before bed and upon awakening in OSAHS with hypertension group were significantly higher than those in OSAHS without hypertension group (all P005).The blood pressure upon awakening was significantly higher than the blood pressure before bed in OSAHS with hypertension group(P005),while the blood pressure before bed and upon awakening had no significant difference in OSAHS without hypertension group(P005).Conclusions OSAHS and hypertension have close correlation,and OSAHS might be one of the causes which induce correlation or exacerbate hypertension.
