Abstract

The properties of Ni-W-P coatings electroplated on 45# steel substrates were studied. The results of XRD and SEM showed that both as-plated and heat-treated coatings feature amorphous structure, uniform grain size and clear crystal boundary. Crystal grains grow up after heat treatment. The corrosion tests in H2SO4 and HCl solutions of different volume fractions showed that the corrosion resistance of heat-treated Ni-W-P coating is better than that of as-plated one except in ca. 5% and ca. 20% HCl solutions. Based on hydrogen evolution tests, the electrocatalytic activities of different Ni-based alloy coatings are in the following descending order: Ni-W-P Ni-P Ni-W Ni.
