Application Comparison between Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter(PICC) and Venous Indwelling Needle on Using 5-FU Pump

Objective To explore the application comparison between peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) and venous indwelling needle on using 5-FU pump.Methods Ninety-eight of patients with gastrointestinal carcinoma treated by 5-FU after radical section were divided into two groups,group A(PICC,50 cases) and group B(venous indwelling needle,48 cases) according to their requests.Phlebitis' s incidence rate,retaining time and satisfaction rate between the two groups were compared.Results Phlebitis's incidence rate,retaining time and satisfaction rate of group A were significantly superior to those of group B(P0.001).Conclusion Compared to venous indwelling needle on using portable infusion pump to infuse 5-FU continuously at a constant-speed,phlebitis' s incidence rate of PICC was lower,retaining time was longer and had no obvious effect on the patients' daily life,furthermore it reduced the patients' suffering and the nurses' work,improved the clinical efficacy and was worthy of clinical extension.
