Changes' characters and significance of clinical laboratory indices after the treatment of plasma exchange in patients with liver failure

Objective To evaluate the influence and significance of plasma exchange(PE) on liver function indices and blood clotting indices in the patients with liver failure.Methods Twenty patients with liver failure were performed plasma exchange about 40 times one after another.Liver function indices(TBIL,DBIL,AST,ALT),prothrombin time(PT),prothrombin activity(PTA),blood electrolyte(K+,Na+,Cl-),blood routine(RBC,WBC,PLT) were recorded or detected before and after treatment,and the effects of PE on patients with liver failure.Results After PE treatment,liver function indices: total bilirubin(TBIL),direct bilirubin(DBIL),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT) obviously decreased and had significant difference(P0.05),PT obviously shortened(P0.05),PTA obviously increased(P0.05).Before and after treatment,electrolyte and blood routine had no significant difference(P0.05).With PE treatment,fifteen patients were improved and five patients died.Conclusion Plasma exchange is an effective method to the patients with liver failure.It can improve liver function indices,and shorten prothrombin time.
