Abstract

This is a brief but comprehensive discussion of Chomsky’s ideas about grammar, his philosophical belief, his way of thinking and his research methodology. Some basic assumptions in generative-transformation grammar and some basic concepts in contemporary linguistics are also discussed, such as the relation between natural language grammar and theories of grammar, methodology of linguistic studies and the falsification of linguistic theories.
