Abstract

Objective:To establish experimental rat model with syndrome of insulin resistance. Methods:Adult male SD rats were divided into two groups and maintained for 8 wk on high-fat-sugar-salt diet and normal diet respectively. Both groups' water drinding amount, body weight, mean arterial BP,glucose tolerance, plasma TG,TC,and HDL-c,glucose and insulin levels, and insulin sensitivity index (ISI) were measured. Results:Compared with normal feeding,high-fat-sugar-salt feeding significantly increased water drinking amount (by 47%, P 0 01),body weight (by 11%, P 0 01),mean arterial BP (by 20%, P 0 01),the levels of plasma TG,TC,insulin (by 49%,57% and 69% respectively, all P 0 01) and glucose (by12%, P 0 05),and remarkably lowered the plasma HDL-c level (by30%, P 0 05) and the ISI ( P 0 01),and induced significant glucose intolerance. Conclusion:Rats fed diet high in fat, sugar and salt can develop to be animal models of syndrome of insulin resistance.
