Primary Analysis of the Influences of Self-esteem Level and Coping Style on College Freshmen

To evaluate the influences of the self-esteem level and coping style on college freshmen preliminarily.By using coping style questionnaire and self-esteem scale(SES),318 college freshmen who were in the school of pharmaceutical science were tested.The single interview and group discussion were employed as well.The total level of their self-esteem is relatively high;The coping styles are mainly solving problems,followed by fantasy and escapism,self-blame at last;There are significant differences among groups of freshmen with different levels of self-esteem in each coping factor;The self-esteem correlates positively with solving problem,seeking supports and rationalization,but negatively with self-accusation,fantasy and escapism.
