Abstract
AIM: To establish a reliable chronic myocardial infarction model in rats.METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were anesthetized with ketamine and pentobarbital sodium.Anterior thoracotomy was performed with the left anterior descending coronary artery ligated. The infarction of myocardium was confirmed by the discolored distal myocardium and changes in ECG.RESULTS: Myocardial infarction was induced in all rats. The mortality in early period was 15%,and the total mortality was 22.5%.(CONCLUSION): The ligated position of the left anterior descending coronary artery must be accurate.Postoperative intensive care of respiratory tract is important to ensure the survival of the rats and the success of the models.
