Abstract

Objective To analyze the features of impaired fasting glucose and associated factors in obese children and adolescents. Methods 459 overweight and obese children and adolescents were recruited.Height, weight, serum fasting plasm glucose(FPG),fasting insulin(FIns),leptin and lipid profile were measured, body mass index(BMI),HOMA-IR,HOMA-β,QUICKI were calculated, and FPG-related factors were analyzed.Results(1)The levels of FIns,triglyceride(TG),cholesterol(TC),letptin and HOMA-IR,HOMA-β were significantly higher in obesity/overweight group than in normal weight control(P0.05).The insulin sensitivity index and QUICKI index were insignificantly low in obesity/overweight group than in control group(P0.05).(2)FIns level in normal control group was significantly lower than that in obesity group both in NPG group and IFG group(P0.05).(3)The IFG prevalence was significantly higher in obesity and overweight group(17.2%)than in normal control group(2.26%),the FPG levels of IFG children in normal cotnrol children were within 5.6-6.0 mmol/L.IFG was significantly correlated with age, sex,BMI,FIns,leptin,TG,TC and HOMA-IR index. Conclusions The prevalence of IFG is significantly higher in overweight and obesity group than in normal weight group.FPG is significantly correlated with other metabolic components.Further study of the longitudinal change of FPG and IFG may benefit the prevention of children type 2 diabetes and the related metabolic syndrome.
