Research on Association Between High Blood Glucose,High Plasma Lipid and Overweight/Obesity

Objective To study the correlation between high blood glucose,high plasma lipid and overweight/obesity.Methods We collected the data of fasting plasma glucose(FPG),serum total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),height,weight and body mass index(BMI)from 1,047 male residents aged 20 years and over and took the physical examination in our hospital in 2006,and these data were statistically analyzed.Results The percentages of overweight and obesity within the subjects were 43.55% and 14.90% respectively.All the subjects were divided into four groups:low-weight,normal,overweight,and obesity.The percentages of subjects with impaired fasting glucose(IFG)(0.00%,3.59%,6.14%,and 14.74%),with diabetes(0.00%,5.02%,6.36%,and 14.10%),with high TC(17.65%,20.81%,27.85%,and 33.33%)and with high TG(5.88%,27.27%,49.12%,and 62.82%)for four groups existed significant difference(χ2=29.835,χ2=20.791,χ2=11.672,and χ2=83.695 respectively;all P0.01).The levels of FPG,TC,TG for groups with different BMI also existed significant difference(F=7.966,F=6.957,and F=32.498;all P 0.01).Conclusions Average values of FPG,TC and TG significantly increase when BMI increases.The possibility to have IFG,diabetes,high TC and high TG also increases significantly with the increment of BMI.
