Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical effects of amniotic membrane transplantation plus mitomycin C(MMC) on recurrent pterygium. Methods 21 cases(21 eyes) of recurrent pterygium bad been treated as the follaving methods, the pterygium and adhesion were excised completely,MMC was applicated on sclera wound, and amniotic membrane had been sewed to cover the sclera and cornea wound. Results Amniotic membrane on corneal wound lyzed in one week and the corneal epithelial healing. The sclera wound was covered by conjunctival epithelium after 12-20 days.No recurrence occurred in the postoperative follow-up time of 1-2 years. Conclusion Amniotic membrane transplantation plus mitomycin C on recurrent pterygium is an effective treatment.
