Clinical analysis of lower ureteral obstruction(report of 209 cases)

Objective To evaluate the etiology, diagnosis a nd treatment of lower ureteral obstruction. Methods Clinical dat a of 209 cases of lower ureteral obstruction in Peking Union Hospital from Aug 1 996 to Dec 2002 were analysed. Results Of the 209 cases, 9% w ere congenital diseases, 24% were tumors, 28% were inflammations, 31% were stone s,and 8% were others.Preoperative diagnosis was depended on ultrasound, KUB, int ravenous pyelography,retrograde pyelography, CT and MRI. 152 of the 209 cases we re treated with open operations,46 cases were treated with endosoopic operations , 11 cases were treated with ESWL. Conclusion Stone, inflamm ation and tumor are the main causes of lower ureteral obstruction. Ultrasound, C T and MRI are useful in the diagnosis of lower ureteral obstruction.Endoscopic s urgery is hopeful in the treatment of lower ureteral obstruction.
