Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the results of the treatment for remoral neck fractures with closed reduction and cannulated screw fixation. Methods:The results of stabilization of the femoral neck fracture with cannulated screws in 131 patients (51 male,80 female) between 1989 to 2001 were reviewed retrospectively. The mean age of the patients was 54.3 years.45 patients (34 %) had a non-displaced fracture (Garden Ⅰ-Ⅱ) and 80 cases (66 %) had a displaced fracture (GardenⅢ-Ⅳ).19 patients had been fixed internally with two screws and 112 cases with three screws. Results:The duration of follow-up was five years in 68 patients and 20 cases were followed until death. The 47 patients were lost to follow-up.There was a osteonecrosis in 25 patients,5 patients had a non-union of the fracture;58 cases had no necrosis of femoral head and non-union.51 patients of them were found to be functioning well.21 patients (84 %) of femoral head necrosis were observed during the first 3 years and 2 cases (8 %) in the first 4~5 years after operation. Conclusion:Closed reduction and internal fixation with cannulated screw is an effective method of minimally invasive, safety and inexpensive for femoral neck fractures.
