Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical therapeutic efficacy of banazapril accompanied with metoprolol in treatment of congestive heart failure(CHF).Methods Two hundred patients with CHF were randomized to take banazapril(5-10 mg per day)and metopolol(6.25-100 mg per day,n=50)and to placebo(n=100)on the basis of conventional teratment. The mean periods of follow up was 327 days and the efficacy was assessed by means of echocardiography and clinical symptoms. Results There were more signficant improvement in NYHA functional class in banazapril accompanied with metoprolol group than in palceebo group.Banazapril and metoprolol were associated with greater overall reduction of left ventricular end-diastolic diameter and an overall increase in the LVEF% during the first year of therapy. Conclusion Long term addition of banazapril and metoprolol to standard therapy may profoundly improve cardiac function and prevent clinical deterioration in patients with CHF when compared with patients without metoprolol and banazapril treatment.
