Abstract
Objective To analyze the MR findings of Wallerian degeneration in pyramidal tract , so as to improve the diagnosis accuracy. Methods MR findings of 37 cases with Wallerian degeneration in pyramidal tract were analyzed. Results A total of 37 cases with Wallerian degeneration in pyramidal tract including cerebral infarction in 19L cerebral hemorrhage in 11, Traumatic brain injury after operation in 4, brain tumor after treatment in 2 and cerebral white matter demyelination. MR findings hyperintensity regions on T2WI were demonstrated in the ipsilateral corona radiataL posterior limb of internal capsule. The atrophy of the ipsilateral brainstem was demonstrated in 23 cases. The FA in Wallerian degeneration was significantly different compared to the normal side. Conclusion MR is valuable in the diagnosia of Wallerian degeneration in pyramidal tract .
