Abstract
Letrozole, the third-generation aromatase inhibitor, which is mainly applied in the treatment for menopausal women with breast cancer. Recent studies showed that letrozole is an effective drug for ovulation induction. Letrozole with short half-life has good effects in ovulation induction by central and peripheral channels, which has less adverse effects on cervical mucous, endometrium and sex hormone because of the absence of anti-estrogen effects similar to clomiphene citrate(CC). Letrozole can be used in the treatment of ovulation induction for patients with cc-resistance and polycystic ovary syndrome. As an adjunctive drug of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer, letrozole can improve the pregnancy outcomes of ovarian poor responders and reduce the gonadotropin dosage as well as treatment cost. And letrozole can be used in ovulation induction for patients with malignant tumor, without significant teratogenic effects. Letrozole may be a new first-line drug for ovulation induction.
