Abstract
Letrozole,an aromatase inhibitor, was firstly introduced as a potential ovulation induction agent in 2 000,followed by a large number of studies published.Letrozole appears to be a good option, with its convenient administration route, reliability, single follicle development, negligible anti-estrogen effect and decreased dose of gonadotropin used.It has been used for ovulation induction in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),intrauterine insemination, various protocols of in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection(IVF/ICSI)and fertility preservation.Furthermore, letrozole was applied in the adjuvant treatment of breast cancer originally. This review focuses on the efficacy and safety of letrozole in ovulation induction.
