Research progress of letrozole in inducing ovulation of women infertility

Letrozole is the third-generation aromatase inhibitor and it is mainly applied in the treatment for menopausal women with breast cancer.Recent studies showed that letrozole is an effective drug for clinical ovulation induction.Currently,letrozole is mainly applied in the following several aspects:first,applied in clinical ovulation induction for patients with CC-resistance in polycystic ovarian syndrome;secondly,applied in poor ovarian responders in IVF cycles to improve the pregnancy outcomes and reduce the gonadotropin dosages as well as treatment cost;thirdly,applied in ovulation induction for patients with cancer especially breast cancer without apparent teratogenic effects for fetus.This text elaborates the characteristic and mechanism of letrozole in clinical ovulation and its application in ovulation induction treatment.Letrozole may be a new first-line drug for ovulation induction.
