Abstract

Objective To study the expression of MMP-7 gene in gastric cancer tissue and explore its clinical significance. Methods Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and dot ELISA was used to detect the expression of MMP-7 mRNA in 35 samples of gastric cancer and the surrounding normal tissue. Results The expression rate of MMP-7 mRNA in 35 gastric cancer samples and the surrounding normal tissue was 60% and 11%, respectively (P0.05).The expression level of MMP-7 gene in gastric cancer was much higher than that in the surrounding normal tissues [ (0.627±0.276) vs (0.237±0.12), P0.05]. Furthermore, the extremely high expression level of MMP-7 mRNA was detected in tumors with metastasis. Conclusion High expression of MMP-7 mRNA in gastric cancer, especially in that with metastasis indicates that MMP-7 may play a role in tumor invasion and metastasis.
