Abstract
Objective To investigate The expression of pl6 protein and vascular endothelial growthfactor (VEGF) in colorectal carcinoma tissues and its clinical significance Methods The expression of P16 protein and VEGF were detected in 66 cases of colorectal carcinoma and 20 cases of normal colorectal tissues by S-P immunohistochemistry. Results The positive rate of P16 protein (48.5%)in colorectal carcinoma tissues was significantly lower than that in the normal colorectal tissues(75.0%)(P0.01), The positive rate of VEGF (72.7%)in corectal carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in the normal tissues(lS.0%)(P0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between the expression of P16 protein and VEGF. No correlation was observed between the expression of them in histological type, tumor diameter and tumor place (P0.05),but there was significant correlation with lymph node metastasis, clinical stage(Duke's) and the patients'five-year-survival probability(P0.01). Conclusion There is a significant correlation between P16 protein expression down regulation and VEGF expression up regulation in colorectal carcinoma tissues. The expression of P16 protein and VEGF is one of the predictors for the biological behavior of colorectal carcinoma.
