Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of the combined therapy of tonglong qibi decoction and tamsulosin in the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)induced by benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods 77 cases of BPH were randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group. For 33 cases in control group, tamsulosin hydrochloric acid sustained-release capsule,0.2 mg was taken orally, once in every evening. For 44 cases in treatment,on the basis of the treatment as control group, the self-prepared tonglong qibi decoction was supplemented,1 dose per day, twice in every morning and evening. The international prostate symptoms score(IPSS),quality of life(QOL)and maximum flow rate(Qmax),postvoiding residual volume(PRV),prostate volume(PV)and the total prostate specific antigen(t-PSA)were observed before treatment and 12 weeks after treatment in two groups separately.Additionally, the adverse reaction was recorded. Results The total effective rate was 93.18% in treatment group and was 75.76% in control group, indicating statistical significant difference in comparison(P0.05).In treatment group, the improvements in IPSS,QOL,Qmax and PRV were remarkably superior as compared with control group(P0.05).The results of down-regulation of PV and t-PSA in treatment group were better than those in control group, but without statistical significance(P0.05).Conclusion Tonglong qibi decoction combined with tamsulosin can significantly improve in the subjective symptoms and objective indexes of the patients with BPH and it is safe and effective in the treatment.
