Use value of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of breast diseases

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in diagnosis of breast lesions.Methods Forty patients with breast diseases were enrolled to undergo MRI plain and dynamic scannings.Among them,33 with benign lesions and 24 with malignant lesions confirmed by postoperative pathology or biopsy.The enhanced morphological characteristics of foci were analyzed;the time-signal intensity curve type,peak time and early enhancement rate were measured.The obtained data were statistically analyzed.Results Most of lesions could not be detected by MRI plain scanning,while the sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy for detection of breast cancer accounted for 75%,69.7%,and 71.9%,respectively,if combined with enhanced morphological characteristics.The differences in the time-signal intensity curve,the peak time,and the early enhancement rate between benign and malignant lesions were statistically significant(P0.01).The diagnostic sensitivities were 91.7%,87.5%,and 75.0%,the specificities were 87.9%,87.9%,and 84.8%,and the accuracies were 89.5%,87.7%,and 80.7%,respectively.The sensitivity was 95.8%,the specificity was 87.9% and the accuracy was 91.2% in the detection of breast cancer when all above-mentioned indexes were combined.Conclusions Time-signal intensity curve,peak time and early enhancement rate have high sensitivity and specificity in the early identification of benign and malignant breast diseases,when combined with enhanced morphological characteristics,which are even more instrumental in diagnosing and identifying the breast lesions.
