Abstract
Objective To evaluate the protective effects of soybean isoflavones(SI) on hyperlipidmi-induced fatty liver in rats.Method 50 SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: nomal control group, model group, low dose of SI(30mg/kg/d) treatment group, intermediate dose of SI(100mg/kg/d) treatment group and high dose of SI(300mg/kg/d)treatment group. The fatty liver model of rats were induced by oral administration of high fat diet. The contents of triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) in serum were measured and liver index was calculated. Histopathologic examination of the liver tissues was also performed. Results There was a significant increase of serum TG and TC levels in model group compared with normal control group (P0.01) , but decreased in IS treatment groups compared with model group (P0.05) . The liver index was significantly reduced in IS treatment groups compared with model group (P0.05) . SI also markedly ameliorated the pathological injury in the liver tissue. Conclusion Soybean isoflavones exerts a significant protective effect on hyperlipidmi-induced fatty liver in rats.
