Correlation Between College Students' Self Consistency and Congruence and Parental Rearing Style

Objective To find out the relationship between college students' self harmony and parental rearing style,and to provide theoretical evidence for improving parental rearing style and psychological harmony. Methods A total of 568 college students answered questions on Egma Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran (EMBU) and Self Consistency and Congruence Scale (SCCS). Results The level of college students' self-consistency and congruence presented negative skew distribution. The percentage of high score group,middle score group and low score group were respectively 30.99%,62.32% and 6.69%.The total score of self-consistency and congruence was 94.60±12.39. The total score of self-consistency and congruence was negatively correlated with fathers' and mothers' emotional warmth and understanding,and positively correlated with all other factors of EMBU(P0.01 or P0.05). The results of logistic regression analysis showed that not being only-child,fathers' overprotection,mothers' rejection or denial,mothers' punishment or severity were the risk factors of college students' self-consistency and congruence. Conclusion Parental rearing may be associated with self consistency and congruence in college students. Parents should give children more emotional warmth,understanding and support,avoiding interference and overprotection.
