Abstract

Objective To study the germicidal efficacy and related disinfection properties of a glutaraldehyde disinfectant. Methods The carrier quantitative and qualitative germicidal tests and animal test were used to observe the disinfection properties of the glutaraldehyde disinfectant in laboratory and field test. Results The killing logarithm values of spores of Bacillus subtilis var niger exposed to the 20 g/L glutaraldehyde disinfectant for 30 min was 3.00,and the spores could be killed completely exposed to this disinfectant for 5h and the results of the qualitative germicidal tests were negative. The minimum eligible concentration for killing Escherichia coli in capacity test was 1 000 mg /L.It could kill the spores of Bacillus subtilis var niger completely on the carriers with 5h contact time after using this concentration of glutaraldehyde disinfectant to soak medical devices for 14 d.The LD50 of the oral acute toxicity of the disinfectant in mice was 5 000 mg/kg bw.It was negative in the mouse bone marrow polychromatic erythrocyte micronucleus test. Conclusion The glutaraldehyde disinfectant has good germicidal efficacy. It belongs to non-toxic class substance and has no mutagenic effect.
