Abstract

Objective To investigate the induction of VEGF gene and his receptor Flt-1 expression after transient focal cerebral ischemia at protein levels in order to clarify the role of VEGF in cerebral ischemia.Method A transient middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion model was used.Cellular changes of VEGF and its receptor Flt-1 expression were compared with immunohistochemitry.Result VEGF gene and its receptor Flt-1 expressed in the neurons, glial cells and vascular endothelial. Conclusion VEGF and Flt-1 are upregulated during the early period after transient MCAO in the rat. This indicated that the increasing expression of VEGF and Flt-1 possibly had affection to recover the blood supply in the border region.
