Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of primary cardiac osteosarcoma and to make the acquaintance of it. Methods One case of primary cardiac osteosarcoma was observed with the morphological method,clinical data analysis and review of the related literature.Results Morphologically,the polymorphic tumor cells with various sizes and obvious atypia were arranged haphazardly.The tumor was mainly composed of short spindle cells with the polygonal,oval to epithelioid cells,surrounded with abundant homogeneous pink filigree and roselet osteoid matrix.Immunohistochemical staining showed that the tumor cells were positive for vimentin and negative for SMA,actin,EMA,AE1/AE3,CD34,CD117,Calretinin and S-100. Conclusion Primary cardiac osteosarcoma is extremely rare.The definite diagnosis depends on the accurate identification of unequivocal malignant osteoid matrix and immunohistochemical staining may contribute to differential diagnosis,with exclusion of metastatic cardiac osteosarcoma.
