Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of fiber post-core and metal cast post-core in the restoration of residual crown and root. Methods 107 defect teeth of residual crown and root(92 cases)were divided into 2 groups randomly.group1 includes 50 defect teeth(43cases) restored with quartzfiber post-core,group 2 includes 57defect teeth(49cases) restored with metal cast post-core of Ni-Cr alloy.2 groups were restored with porcelain fused metal(PFM) crown. The success rate of prostheses was observed after 36 months. The date was statistically analyzed by χ2 test. Results There was no one root fracture and gingival grey line happened in group1 which restored with quartzfiber post-core,only 1 pose-core loose and fractured.meanwhile,in group2 restored with metal cast post-core,4 root fracture and 3post-core loose were found and 1 tooth with gingival grey line.the success rate of prostheses in group 1(48/50,96%)was higher than that in group 2(49/57 86%).The difference of the success rate between two groups was statistically significant. Conclusion Fiber post-core was more suitable to restore the residual crown and root.
