Expression and significance of livin in human gastric carcinoma

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To explore the expression of apoptosis inhibition protein Livin in gastric cancer.METHODS The expression of Livin was studied in 49 gastric cancer samples and 20 adjacent normal tissues by in situ hybridizationtechniques and immuohistochemisitry.RESULTS The expression of Livin protein in gastric cancer was significantly higher than that of adjacent normal tissues(49.0% vs 20.0%,P﹤0.05);The expression of livin-mRNA was 46.9%(23/49)Livin protein expression was positive correlation with the sizes of tumor and lymphatic metastasis(P﹤0.05).CONCLUSION The overexpression of Livin protein in gastric cancer indicated it may play an important role in carcinogenesis and progression of gastric cancer.Therefore,livin may be an index for identifying gastric carcinoma.As a molecularmarker of gastric carcinoma,livin maybe served as a new target for apoptosis inducing therapy of gastric carcinoma.
