Abstract
Objective:To study the expression of livin, a novel inhibitor of apoptosis protein ( IAP) family member, in human gastric carcinoma and to explore the relationship between livin expression and clinical parameters. Methods: The mRNA and protein expression of livin was detected in malignant, para-cancerous and benign gastric tissues respectively by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Livin mRNA was expressed in 22 out of 45 cases of gastric carcinoma ( 48.8%)by RT-PCR.No livin expression was detected in para-cancerous or benign gastric tissues. there was a relationship between the expression of livin and degree of differentiation and metastases(P0.05) . Conclusion: Livin may serve as a new target for diagnose and therapy of gastric cancer.
