Abstract

Objective To assess the clinical effects of combined traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine for oral herpes simplex virus(HSV) infection. Methods Fifty-eight patients were randomly divided into twogroups. Those in the treated group were treated with traditional Chinese medicine combined with intramuscular injection of polyinosinic acid, while those in the control group were treated with acyclovir alone. The effects and adverse effects were observed. Results Compared with the control group, the effective rate in the treated group was significantly higher(uc=2.19,P0.05),and the course of treatment was shorter(t′=5.68,P0.05).No significant difference in terms of adverse effects was observed between the twogroups. Conclusion The combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is more effective than western medicine alone in the treatment of HSV infection, which opens up a new therapy for this disease.
