Epidemiological Analysis of Reported Emergency Public Health Events at schools in Jiangsu Province in 2007-2008

Abstract

Objective To analyze the reported emergencies of school public health in Jiangsu province from 2007 to 2008,and to offer scientific bases to take right measures of control and prevention. Methods Descriptive epidemiology analysis was used to analyze the data of the public health emergencies at school in Jiangsu from 2006 to 2008. Results There were 292 emergencies of school public health reported in Jiangsu province from 2007 to 2008,involving 9 430 cases. The percentage of public health emergency of infectious disease to all the emergency public health events in Jiangsu province was 95.2%. Most of them occurred in schools and kindergartens with peaks from March to June and November to next January and the major causes were respiratory diseases. Conclusion Emergency public health events at school are increasing rapidly,and the events mainly occur in primary and middle schools in the countryside. The work of the control and prevention of emergencies of school public health should be strengthened.
