Optimization of ultrasonic-assisted extraction of proanthocyanidins from mango seeds using response surface methodology

Abstract

The study to optimize the ultrasonic-assisted extraction of proanthocyanidins from mango seeds and effects of ethanol concentration,ratio of raw material to solvent,extraction time and ultrasonic power was investigated respectively in single-factor tests on proanthocyanidins yield.The extraction conditions were optimized by the maximization of the yield through response surface methodology with four factors and three levels based on the principle of Box-Behnken design.The results showed that the optimal conditions were as follows:ethanol concentration 68.8877%,ratio of raw material to solvent 1:18.179,extraction time 21.75min and ultrasonic power 329.007W.Under the above conditions,the confirmed tests indicated that the extraction rate of proanthocyanidins was 6.42%,which was close relation with the predicted yield of the extraction rate of proanthocyanidins was 6.51512%.The study would provide reference for the effective utilization of proanthocyanidins and food colors from mango seeds.
