Abstract

Objective To assess the safety,feasibility and superiority of minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPC-NL) in treating upper urinary calculi.Methods We retrospectively investigated 105 patients suffering from renal calculi and upper ureteral calculi,who were treated with MPCNL from January 2008 to June 2009.Results Of 105 cases,90.44%stone free-rate was achieved using one-stage MPCNL.They were treated by 119 MPCNL,Single tract was in 94 renal units.two tracts in 22 renal units,three tracts in 3 renal units,respectively.Stage-one MPCNL was performed in 91 cases,stage-two was performed in 14 patients.Av-erage nephrostomy tube stay was 7 days,average hospitalization stay was 15 days.Average hospitalization stay of nephrostomy-free tube or tubeless MPCNL was 8 days for 23 cases.No peri-operative complications such as bleeding,intestinal injuries and conver-sions to open surgery occurred.Conclusions MPCNL is a safe and effective option for upper urinary calculi.Tubeless MPCNL re-duces postoperative pain related to the drainage tube and have easy recovery.It also minimizes hospital stay.
