Abstract

Objective To investigate the roles of Pin1 andβ-catenin in the tumorigenesis and development of gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression of Pin1 and β-catenin proteins in 50 cases of gastric cancer tissues(gastric cancer group) and 30 cases of normal gastric tissues(control group)were detected by immunohistochemistry. The relationships among Pin1 and β-catenin expression and clinicopathological factors of gastric carcinoma were analyzed. Results The positive rates of Pin1 expression in gastric cancer group and control group were 24%(12/50),0(0/30) respectively, the positive rates of β-catenin expression were 62%(31/50),23.3%(7/30) respectively,P0.05.There was a significant correlation between Pin1 and β-catenin expression in gastric cancer tissues(r=0.51,P0.01).The Pin1 andβ-catenin expression were significantly correlated with pathological grade, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer(P0.05).Conclusion The abnormal expression of Pin1 and β-catenin may play an important role in the genesis and development of gastric carcinoma, and it may act as the criterions to guide the treatment of carcinoma and judgement of metastasis and prognosis.
