Abstract

Objective To investigate the cause and precaution of recurrent laryngeal nerve(RLN) injury induced by thyroid operation. Methods Clinical data of 532 patients was analyzed retrospectively, including relationship of RLN injury with type of injury, procedures and frequency of operation. Results Unilateral RLN injury occurred in 8 cases(1.5%) and 1 case was permanent damage(0.2%).Conclusions RLN injury could be greatly decreased through pertinent protection or exposure of RLN,dexterity performance and correct identification anatomic variant.
