On the Source of Words of Ningbo Dialect

Abstract

The utmost study of dialect lexicon is tracing back to the sources of dialectical words.It is hard work to trace back to their historical sources. Xiu Shi-yan made considerable contributions to the etymology of Ningbo Dialect, bu it is far from its end. Based on the language in the novels of Ming and Qing dynasties, this paper intends for further work of certain items of Ningbo Dialect which are not collected in The Dictionary of habo Dialect for better study of Ningbo Dialect and Chinese lexical research.
