Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor A、C (VEGF-A、C)in colorectal carcinoma and its corresponding lymph node metastases and the relations with clinicopathologic characteristics. Methods The expressions of VEGF-A and VEGF-C were studied by using S-P immunohistochemistry in 12 cases of normal large intestinal mucosa,18 cases of colorectal adenoma,63 cases of colorectal primary adenocarcinoma, and 19 cases of lymph node metastases.Result There was no positive expression of VEGF-A and VEGF-C in normal large intestinal mucosa.Positive expression rate of VEGF-A and VEGF-C in colorectal primary adenocarcinoma was ~57.14% (36/63)、~55.56% (35/63) respectively, which were higher than they were in normal large intestinal mucosa and colorectal adenoma and the differences were significant ~(P ~0.05). The high expression rate of VEGF-C in 19 cases of colorectal primary adenocarcinoma and corresponding lymph node metastases was ~42.11% (8/19)、~73.68% (14/19) respectively, the differences were significant ~(P ~0.05). Conclusions Overexpresses of VEGF-A and VEGF-C were closely correlated with carcinomatous change of colorectal adenoma and metastasis.VEGF-C may paly an important role in region lymphatic metastasis of colorectal cancer.
