Efficacy and safety of ertapenem on community-acquired pneumonia in elderly patients

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ertapenem on the community-acquired pneumonia in elderly patients. Methods 100 cases of community-acquired pneumonia in elderly patients(aged≥65 years) were randomly divided into two groups,the experiment group was given ertapenem 1g,once a day for 7～14 days and the control group was given moxifloxacin injection 400 mg,once a day for 7～14 days.The clinical effect was observed before and after the treatment. Results The effective rate and bacteriological clearance rate of the experiment group were 92% and 88.9% and it were 76% and 69.8% of the control group.There was significant difference between the two groups(P0.05). Conclusion The clinical improvement appears much better by ertapenem treatment,and it is safe and effective to therapy community-acquired pneumonia in elderly patients.
