Some applications of GIS in traffic safety

Abstract

It is a new project for GIS to be applied to reinforce transportation safety. This paper establishes a framework of GIS facing traffic safety, and offers a discussion of some application in this field practiced in USA. GIS is not only applied in the traffic accident analyzing, but also applied in highway maintenance and the choice for the optimum travel path. With the constructing of info autobahn and digital earth, it becomes more important and convenient for GIS application in traffic safety.
