Abstract
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology is developing with high speed. In recent years, the application of the GIS has spread to transportation field. Due to the speciality of the traffic problems, and especially, that traditional GIS was not designed for the transportation, in transportation field, using the traditional GIS tool will cause some problems. Based on the discussion of these problems, the paper presents a new data model of GIS for Transportation (GIS-T) based on traffic features and non-planar features, experiments validated that the model method and design of structure are doable and convenient in management and maintenance of database. Non-planar data model based on traffic feature is an important research direction. The final object of this research is to make out whole new GIS that is satisfied with the transportation.
