Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the clinical significance of myocardial backscatter parameters of hypertrophic myocardium in the patients with hypertension. Methods: According to left ventricular mass index(LVMI), we divided hypertensive patients into three groups: groupⅠ: LVMI125gm2(n=17); groupⅡ: LVMI 125~174gm2(n=17); groupⅢ: LVMI≥175gm2(n=16). Ultrasonic backscatter parameters in left ventricular posterior wall and interventricular septum were measured. Results: The values of percent integrated backscatter(IBS%) and cyclic variation of integrated backscatter(CVIB) of the three groups in the region of interventricular septum and left ventricular posterior wall were significantly different(P0.01). The correlations were found between septal thickness and its IBS%(r=0.86, P0.01), between posterior wall thickness and its IBS%(r=0.90, P0.01), between LVMI and posterior IBS%(r=0.91, P0.01) and septal IBS%(r=0.90, P0.01). Conclusion: Ultrasonic integrated backscatter parameters may be used to evaluate the degree of myocardial hypertrophy in the patients with hypertension.
