Abstract
Objective To elucidate the relationship between the G/C polymorphism at-174 of the interleukin-6 gene and acute cerebral infarction.Methods Objects examined were composed of two groups: 42 patients with cerebral infarction and 18 healthy controls. Adopt PCR, RFLP and sequence analysis to know the G/C polymorphism at-174 of the interleukin-6 gene in patients with cerebral infarction.Levels of circulating IL-6 were analysed by ELISA in 42 patients with cerebral infarction and in 18 healthy controls. Results The -174 genotype of the interleukin-6 gene in 42 patients with cerebral infarction was normal GG. Plasma IL-6 was elevated in these patients compared with healthy controls ( P 0.01). Conclusion The study suggestes that G to C variation at-174 of the interleukin-6 gene is not associated with the cerebral infarction.
