On the Return of Artistic Conception in Li Shang-yin's Farewell Poems

The farewell poems in Early Tang Dynasty put their focus on the depiction of the parting scenes and the expression of the sorrows of parting,and their mourning style established the basic emotion pattern of ancient farewell poems.The poets in the glorious Tang Dynasty showed great courage in surpassing theirs predecessors and broadened the emotion scope of farewell poems,The themes of farewell poems in this period were constantly employed to convey the poets' orientation and ambitions,thus showing the outstanding achievements and orientation were seen clearly as a component part of the farewell poets in Peak Tang,the tune of their works was vigorous and the emotion valiant.The development trend of farewell poems in the Late Tang Dynasty was to weaken,not to expand the trend to the farewell poems in the glorious Tang Dynasty,Li Shang-yin,a representative of the poets in Late Tang Dynasty,his poems,exceedingly sentimental,while choosing the sceneries and images,he mostly followed the farewell poems in Early Tang Dynasty and showed a trend of return to the Early Tang Dynasty,the above return was not a simple acceptance,but a double negative,on the observation and contemplation of the sceneries and mood,Li Shang-yin's farewell poems shared much similarities with the Early Tang Dynasty,but his poets not only merged the mood into sceneries,but merged the mood into matters,the artistic conception of his farewell poems featured in slenderness,dubiousness and mistiness,had a far reaching influence on the creation of farewell poems after him.
