Abstract
With a brief overview of the Skopos Theory, this paper claims that this theory places its emphasis on the purpose of translation and allows the translator to choose proper translation methods and strategies in accordance with the anticipated function and purpose of the target text. The translator is freed from the traditional bondage of the absolute fidelity. Therefore, this theory is applicable to non-literary translation. This paper studies Chinese-English non-literary translation, and points out that, the translator needs to exert his subjectivity in translation according to the requirement and purpose of translation and the expectation of the target readers, with an aim to help improve the translator's capability, the quality of the translation as well as the position of non-literary translation.
