Clinical effects of fissure surface treatments and sealant materials in pit and fissure sealing

Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical effects of different fissure surface treatments and sealant materials in pit and fissure sealing.Methods A total of 348 children aged 7-8 years whose first molars emerged and had no dental caries were randomly selected.The first molars of them underwent pit and fissure sealing by using different fissure surface treatments and sealant materials.The different operating performances were compared.All the children were followed up for 2 years.The preserving rate and caries prevention effects were observed in half year,1 year and 2 years respectively after the operation.Results There was a significant difference between enameloplasty sealant technique(EST) and conventional sealant technique(CST) after 2 years(P0.05).Under the same condition,the effects of the flowable composite and fissure sealant had a distinct difference(P0.05);The effect of fissure surface treatment was higher than that of sealant materials in pit and fissure sealing(P0.05).Conclusions The effect of the fissure surface treatment is superior to that of the sealant materials on pit and fissure sealing.The result of EST and flowable composite sealing is the best.The retention rate is positively correlated with caries prevention.
